More about my work at Momentum

Photography was previously used for this task so it was important to produce photorealistic 3D renderings. Learning real-world lighting and camera techniques from their photographer was invaluable. They taught me traditional photography techniques to push the photorealism and professional look of the renderings in ways that hadn’t been introduced to me before.

A welcomed challenge here was how much care and precision it took to capture the luster and small details of Momentum's complex wallcovering designs to reveal the natural beauty of the product that was previously not being visually communicated in their Sales and Marketing materials.

The scenes were created with 3ds max and rendered with Vray (later in Corona). The wallcovering products were digitized by feeding them through a large format scanner. The scanned output was then brought into Photoshop and Substance for look development refinement.

For the more complex designs, I worked directly with the textile artists and digitized the products from their raw working artwork using Substance Painter.

I loved that part – those artists were such interesting and talented individuals who had mastered a very niche art form and I was proud to bring their artwork to life online.
